Music Through the Ages
The 2010 theme was related to the addition of our newest instructor, Rebecca Maxwell. The camp focused on the history and development of music since plainchant in the middle ages through to the present. The children performed music on Friday representing a variety of periods, including the classical period, ragtime, and popular jazz.
Every morning after our opening exercises, the children divided into three (3) groups of 14 children each, based on age. They then rotated through Music and Motion, Art/Snack, and Music History. At 11:15 a.m., the children then divided into two (2) groups of about 20 children each, based on grade. They then rotated through Choir rehearsal, instrumental demonstrations, lunch, and recess. At 1:15 p.m., the children, remaining in their two large groups, proceeded to their afternoon field trip destinations. After the field trip, the children returned for closing exercises. Below is the schedule for musical demonstrations and field trips:
Musical Demonstrations: Monday - Will Brown, accoustic and electric guitar; Tuesday - David Phillips, viola; Wednesday - Sherwood Wise, bassoon, oboe, english horn; Thursday - Kara Cornell, mezzo-soprano; Friday - Victor Sungarian, french horn.
