A More Light Church welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians into full membership and participation in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), including the opportunity and the responsibility to serve in ordained leadership positions.

A MORE LIGHT CHURCH...

  • acknowledges the homophobia in ourselves and works to overcome it with the reconciling love of Christ;

  • seeks more light on the relationships of spirituality and sexuality from the experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians and supports them in developing lives of integrity and faithfulness;

  • embraces the issues of other marginalized groups of people within our denomination and advocates for their inclusion in our lives and the life of the church.

More Light Churches are large and small, wealthy and poor, urban, suburban, and rural, geographically dispersed. We share in common our Presbyterian heritage and a passion for justice and inclusiveness.

"We limit not the truth of God to our poor reach of mind ~ by notions of our day and sect ~ crude, partial and confined. No, let a new and better hope within our hearts be stirred, for God hath yet more light and truth to break forth from the Word through the [Holy] Spirit."
Words adapted from those of the Rev. John Robinson, 1620.

The Session adopted the following Inclusiveness Statement on July 21, 1996. Revisions followed in November 1998 and May 2001.

"We believe that all people are created by God, in God's image, and that our value as human beings is given to us by God. God calls us to relate to and nurture one another as whole persons, with love, accountability, responsibility and trust. Discrimination against any group of people should not exist within God's family. We welcome as members all our brothers and sisters who declare their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and who promise discipleship to Christ.We invite all people of every racial/ethnic background, economic and worldly condition, and sexual and gender orientation into the full fellowship, ministry, and mission of God's Good News in Jesus Christ. All who join the church are extended the full privileges of membership, are challenged to lead lives of Christian discipleship, and are eligible to be considered for church office. We welcome and celebrate those leaders who are and will be called by God through the voice of this church."
